The world of Avatar The Last Air Bender is about to get bigger. According to Entertainment websites such as Variety, EW are reporting that Nickelodeon will be expanding The Airbender Franchise with the establishment of Avatar Studios.
The Newly formed Studios will be in charge of creating new ‘Avatar’ content, such as an original animated theatrical film to begin production this year. The film will be the first project to premiere under the studio banner, meanwhile, the output will debut on streaming services such as paramount plus, on Nickelodeon’s linear and digital platforms, including third-party platforms and in theaters.
The series creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko have both signed on to serve as Co-Chief Creative Officers of Avatar Studios, according to the new report from the President of Nickelodeon Animation, Ramsey Naito. If you recall in August 2020 that both creators stepped away from the planned-live-action series over at Netflix, but apparently from what Variety’s Mónica Marie Zorrilla has confirmed that Netflix still plans to move forward with the Live-Action series and is the only Live-Action “Avatar” Series based on the franchise to date.
