Trying to hold back the tears but darn it, the end is finally here for Akane Shimizu‘s Cells at Work! The Manga. A day after Christmas it was announced in the February issue of Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine that Akane Shimizu’s Cells at Work! The manga would be ending in March Issue, unfortunately, today was that day. The final two-part chapter would focus on one of the hottest health topics today, the Coronavirus (COVID-19), and its internal effects on the body from the perspective of the characters in the series. The 6th and final volume of Cells at Work! will be released in Japan on February 6.

The original manga has inspired various spinoffs, including Shigemitsu Harada and Issei Hatsuyoshiya‘s Cells at Work! Code Black (Hataraku Saibō Black). The anime adaptation of the spinoff will premiere in January 2021. Cells at Work!! (with two exclamation points), the previously announced second anime season of Shimizu’s original Cells at Work! the manga will also debut in January 2021. The first television anime of the original manga premiered in July 2018 and aired for 13 episodes. Be sure to catch the newest season of Cells at Work! And Cells at Work! Code Black on Funimation.

A big thank you to Akane Shimizu for bringing us an insightful, humorous, and educational way to help us learn about the Human Body.
