We’ll be returning to Comic Book Reviews soon, in the meantime, I’ll be reviewing another Manga, this time it’s Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid Volume One. Written and illustrated by Mangaka Coolkyousinnjya, Miss Kobayashi lives in an ordinary apartment, along with her new maid, Tohru… a lady dragon! Tohru despises all humans except for Miss Kobayashi, who she adores. Tohru works diligently to serve her beloved mistress, but there are a lot of little things that she can’t seem to quite get right… Let’s take a peek into the daily life of a hard-working office lady and her inept dragon maid in this inhumanly delightful comedy!
When I had first heard about the series and watching the first few episodes at that time, I immediately scoured the Book Shops listing that sold Manga (well, to be frank, I didn’t have to look far thanks to Barnes & Noble) and bought Volumes One through Four, while it was clear to see that the first season of the Anime adapted elements but these events were not all in exact order from the first 3 volumes while the OVA (Valentine’s Day Chapter). It balances fantasy elements with modern times perfectly, the humor is reminiscent of this Mangaka’s previous project “I can’t understand what my husband is saying.” What works well for this is that it has a good, well-written script and characters that balance out this slice-of-life type of story that the writer was trying to tell.
Now I would like to say first and foremost that there is another valid reason why it is for older readers, and that is brief nudity and certain situations that I will not go into but other than that I loved this Yuri themed Seinen story, it is heartwarming and is worth checking out if you enjoy the Anime. There are Fan Service Elements which was obvious and Coolkyousinnjya has put a lot of time and research into this story, including when it comes to business and social etiquette.
