Birds of Prey ‘The Fantabulous emancipation of one, Harley Quinn’ Review

Stop me if you haven’t heard this one before.. Warner Bros. creates a new movie about their highly successful female lead comic book hero team called “Birds of Prey” but, needed someone that had the similar fame of one Caped Crusader to turn the film from more of a Quasi-Origin to more about Harley, but I digress, today’s review is about the latest DCEU Film, ‘Birds of Prey: The Fantabulous Emancipation of One, Harley Quinn‘. Takes place Four Years after the Enchantress’ defeat, Harley and Joker split which sets a cascade of events to happen in Gotham, Black Mask tries to take over Gotham and puts a target on Quinn’s back, Harley becomes the ally of three heroes, Renee Montoya, Huntress, and Black Canary.

If you’re expecting this to be one big ‘Slam’ review, well I’m sorry, you’ll have to find it elsewhere, one of the things that worked well for this film was the humor and some complain that this movie borrowed way too much from Marvel’s Deadpool Films, while there are elements of crude humor and violence; it didn’t push the envelope as Ryan Reynolds’ Anti-Hero film franchise. Ewan McGregor’s Black Mask was one of the characters that made this movie memorable, he understood what made Black Mask stand out from Villians such as Penguin, Two-Face, and of course, Joker; this guy was a Jerk (Would say something different but gotta keep it a tad clean, sorry!) And McGregor made it work. The action scenes were well choreographed, while the film was marketed as a feminist movie and tackling subjects such as Misogyny and Toxic Masculinity it does bring the subject forward. Margot Robie and Ella Jay Basco’s chemistry in this movie was another memorable part of the film, Ella’s Cassandra Cain was truly a master of tricks and quick thinking is one of my favorite moments of the whole movie, besides Jurnee Smollett-Bell’s Black Canary, I hope we see more of these ladies, especially Renee Montoya; would love to see the Question on the big screen!
