On January 27, 2020, legendary comics inker Dexter Vines went to the doctor for a chronic lower back pain that refused to go away. He discovered two major surprises:
1) that he had two fractured vertebrae in his lower back, and 2) that they were the result of Multiple Myeloma, a cancer that attacks the plasma of the blood.Team Dex
“WOW. The goal we set for Dexter was met in 14 hours. To me, that’s not mind blowing, it’s a sign of just how loved he is by all of you. Thank you all so very much for contributing.
We are letting the campaign run a few more days, because the more cushion and help we can give Dexter, the less he has to worry about making ends meet and the more he can concentrate on his health and getting well. (We won’t let it run forever of course, but we know there are many people just discovering this news who would like to contribute and, frankly, we welcome the help).
Individual emails to donors will go out in the coming days, because we want to thank each and every one of you. And Dexter will be updating himself very soon, but for now, let this update serve as a gigantic and very warm THANK YOU, from Dexter and all of us on Team Dex. We love you and we love this community.”— Damita, Brian, and Joe
