Coming soon to your Comic Collection, RWBY and gen: LOCK!
Straight from RTX and Rooster Teeth, DC Comics adapts two of RT’s most popular series!
Two days ago fans were shocked and surprised to find out that two shows from Rooster Teeth were being adapted by DC Comics; it was revealed at RTX, a Convention that was created by Rooster Teeth for gaming and described as “SXSW meets Comic-Con“. July 5th, the new details for both RWBY and gen: LOCK comics were laid out including the creative teams, and first look, Cover Art; Matthew Hullum, the Co-Founder, and CEO of Rooster Teeth had this to say about the two shows being adapted into Comics:
“We’re thrilled to be able to announce the talented artists and writers who are bringing the RWBY and gen:LOCK comic books to life, Connecting with DC and like-minded brands inside WarnerMedia has been a dream come true, and we’re excited for the future of Rooster Teeth. The journey to bring out the RWBY and gen:LOCK comics has been an awesome and fun experience with DC and we can’t wait for fans to get their hands on them.“Matthew Hullum, CEO, and Co-Founder of Rooster Teeth
In Late August, we’ll be seeing RWBY being released digitally while gen: LOCK will be launched in September. The two series will alternate weekly, with two new digital chapters released every month that will later be collected as monthly print issues. DC Publisher/ Renown artist Jim Lee will do a special variant cover for each comic. Here is the Creative team for RWBY; Marguerite Bennett will be the writer, in this Comic Collector’s opinion she is one of the best writers in Comics. For the Artistic team, we’ll be seeing Mirka Andolfo and Arif Prianto; Mirka and Marguerite have both worked on DC’s Bombshell Comic line and it will be wonderful to see them working together again. Marguerite had this to say about working on the RWBY Comic:
“RWBY is the kind of story I wish passionately that I had had growing up — magic, mayhem, monsters, and friendship between girls who grapple with real struggles and grow together to become stronger, brighter, kinder, and better. It’s a joy to work on this project, a joy to be part of this mythology — I’ve fallen deliriously in love with the whole mad world and all the mysteries in it. I am so delighted to explore with Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang — and with all of you!“Marguerite Bennet
“I had heard good things about the RWBY anime series, and the character designs seemed very cool to me. When DC reached out to ask if I was interested in working on a comic book based on the series, I immediately accepted, and started immersing myself in the RWBY universe, The work I’ve done for RWBY has been some of the most enjoyable art I’ve ever created– the style fits me perfectly. I’m also so excited to be paired again with my DC Bombshells partner, Marguerite Bennet!”Mirka Andolfo
Now we move toward gen: LOCK, it will be handled by two writers, Collin Kelly, and Jackson Lanzing (Green Arrow, Nightwing, and Gotham City Garage). As for the artistic team; we’ll be seeing Carlo Barbieri (Green Lanterns, Adventures of Super Sons). Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing had this to describe working on gen: LOCK:
“Giant mechas, heartfelt drama, and a whole new theater of war – we’re deeply excited to be telling the next chapter of the gen:LOCK universe. Huge thanks to everyone at Rooster Teeth & DC for recruiting us into this grand experiment – we promise to turn the screws on Chase, Cammie, Kazu, Val, and Yaz as they face an uncertain future and a devastating new threat.”Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing
Speaking of gen: LOCK, it has been confirmed that not only we’ll be seeing a Comic adaption, but we will also be seeing the show premiere on Adult Swim’s Toonami block on August 3rd!
