It doesn’t come to a surprise, but CAPCOM announced on Wednesday that Resident Evil Requiem (Biohazard Requiem) has topped five million units in cumulative sales worldwide.
CAPCOM has confirmed that Requiem passed a huge milestone after successful launch weekend. It signals also that Resident Evil Requiem was the biggest launch title in recent memory for the Resident Evil Franchise. Places such as IGN have pointed out that it hit 5 million in sales faster than Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 4 remakes.
The press release also highlights some of the game’s accomplishments, for example, the “photorealistic detail, including the character’s skin, teary eyes and flowing hair” made possible by its own custom RE Engine technology. One of the major factors of the game’s success was the return of a popular hero, Leon S. Kennedy, a focus on nostalgic elements such as the series’ long-awaited return to Raccoon City, and the title’s fun mix of survival horror and action gameplay, spread between sequences with Leon and FBI rookie Grace Ashcroft. Players got to experience a true survival horror experience that offers a sense of nostalgia from past Resident Evil Games through Grace’s Playthrough, while Leon’s playthrough is more action-focused mechanics and tone, reminiscent of the action in Resident Evil 4.
AD: Available now for the Nintendo Switch 2, the Pro Controller Resident Evil Requiem Edition
Resident Evil Requiem was first announced in July 2024 and unveiled during Summer Game Fest in June 2025. Requiem confirmed to be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7. It was developed with the RE Engine and was the first Resident Evil game designed for ninth-generation consoles. This also marked Leon’s first major appearance since Resident Evil 6 (2012), which Requiem takes place 28 years after the destruction of Raccoon City.
Resident Evil Requiem is available now for XBox Series X, Nintendo Switch 2, Playstation 5, and PC.
