“EGO Awakens” In The First Trailer For Blue Lock Live-Action Movie

After multiple character teasers, the new trailer for the upcoming live-action adaptation of Muneyuki Kaneshiro, and Yusuke Nomura’s Blue Lock was released on YouTube several days ago. This gave us a new look at what to expect in the upcoming movie.

Aside from the new trailer, there was a new addition to the recently announced cast which sees Masataka Kubota (Hanako & Anne, Radiation House, Rurouni Kenshin Part I: Origins) joins as Jinpachi Ego. The film will be released on August 7th, during the year of the FIFA World Cup.

For staff, Yusuke Taki will be directing the film, Tetsuo Kamata is writing the screenplay. Shinzō Matsuhashi is serving as a producer. CREDEUS (Golden Kamuy) is producing the film and TOHO is distributing.

BLUELOCK is written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. It was first serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine since August 2018 and is an ongoing series, with its chapters collected in 37 tankobon volumes as of January 2026. In October 2023, Kodansha USA announced that the manga is planned to be published in print, which a year later, the first volume was released. The manga chapters are also available to read on Kodansha’s KMANGA app. Since the manga’s debut, it has inspired an Anime adaptation with the third season confirmed (the first two seasons available to watch on Crunchyroll and both are on Blu-ray), an animated film that adapted the spin-off manga Episode NAGI (written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Illustrated by Kōta Sannomiya). It was also adapted into stage plays, a fifth play confirmed to be adapting the Neo Egoist Arc, two mobile games and collaboration with Konami’s efootball 2024, and a prologue novel.
