High School Family: Kokosei Kazoku Gets A Live-Action Film This Fall

The year 2026 continues to be full of surprises, this time we’re getting a live-action film adaptation of Ryo Nakama’s High School Family: Kokosei Kazoku in Fall 2026.

High School Family: Kokosei Kazoku Teaser: Interview with Shingo Katori

Accompanying this announcement from Toei was a brief short interview with one of the cast members of the upcoming film, Shingo Katori (Kochikame – The Movie: Save the Kachidiki Bridge!, Saiyûki, Shinsengumi!) As Ichiro (The Father). Other cast members include Riisa Naka (The Girl Who Leaped Through Time, Summer Wars, Cells at Work!) As Shizuka (The Mother), Jun Saito (Chihayafuru – Meguri -, Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger, Labyrinth) as Kotaro (Eldest Son), and Yuno Nagao (Black Jack, Golden Kamuy: The Hunt of Prisoners in Hokkaido) as Haruka (The Younger Sister). The official website for the film has exclusive comments from the new cast.

For staff, we have Toichiro Ruto (live-action Violence Action, G Men, Ossan’s Love) directing the film based on a script by Europe Kikaku’s Makoto Ueda (The Tatami Galaxy, Night is Short, Walk On Girl, Penguin Highway). The film is scheduled to be released in the Fall of 2026.

High School Family: Kokosei Kazoku was first serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine in September 2020, and ran until February 2023. The chapters were collected in eleven tankobon volumes. The manga was simultaneously published in English by Viz Media on its Shonen Jump service and by Shueisha’s Manga Plus online platform. Viz Media started publishing the volumes in digital format on April 26, 2022.
