Deadpool Samurai originally started out as a One-Shot in October 2019 on Shueisha’s Digital manga platform, Shonen Jump + based on Marvel’s Deadpool (created by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza). The manga was part of a collaboration between Shueisha and Marvel Comics to publish a biweekly series of seven manga short stories. In August 2024, it was revealed what was described as a romantic comedy titled “Secret Steward,” which turned out to be the manga’s second season. When the first chapter for the second season was released, it featured a surprise twist that changes the course of the entire manga and revealed its true nature as the second season of Deadpool: Samurai. Shueisha shipped the third volume in December 2024. Viz Media announced it would license and publish the manga for English Audiences in 2022, the third volume is available now, and its chapters are available to read on Viz Media’s Viz Manga app.

Deadpool was created by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza, who made his debut in New Mutants #98 (December 1990). At first he was depicted as a supervillain of the New Mutants and X-Force, though later stories would portray him as an anti-hero.  Since his debut, he would make appearances in other comic books and becoming popular due to his tendency to joke incessantly and break the fourth wall. Deadpool has made appearances in other media, which include various animated series, video games, an animated film “Hulk Vs Wolverine,” and making the leap into live-action, debuting in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), portrayed by Ryan Reynolds. In 2016, Ryan Reynolds would take on the role of Deadpool in a new incarnation in a feature film, which would get two sequel films consisting of Deadpool 2 (2018) and Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).
