Social Media platforms were rocked by new rumors regarding the Super Sentai Series possibly ending after No. 1 Sentai Gozyuger, which began airing on February 16th.

News publications such as Oricon, Kyodo News, and The Sankei Shimbun are reporting that the reason the series is ending is that the income earned from events, merchandise, and film adaptations was not enough to cover the production costs of the series. Keep in mind, neither Toei nor TV Asahi has commented on this, but only the source was cited “through interviews with related parties“. News regarding this matter has created a lot of buzz amongst fans and responses from actors from the Super Sentai Series such as Super Electronic Bioman’s Michiko Makino (Hikaru Katsuragi/Pink Five), Engine Sentai Go-onger’s Yasuhisa Furuhara (Sosuke Esumi/Go-on Red), Mirai Sentai Time Ranger‘s Shinji Kasahara (Naoto Takizawa/TimeFire), and Ninpu Sentai Hurricanger‘s Nobuo Kyo (Isshuu Kasumi/Kuwaga Raiger). One thing to also remember, Toei’s Shinichiro Shirakura spoke to The Sankei Shimbun in July about Super Sentai, the overseas expansion of Super Sentai, the franchise’s legacy and how Toei is re-establishing its originality .
Fifty years ago on April 5, 1975, the world was introduced to the very first Superhero team in Tokusatsu, Himetsu Sentai Gorenger, thanks to the King of Manga, Shotaro Ishinomori. Fifty years later, Super Sentai is still going strong with the latest installment series, No.1 Sentai Gozyuger. Aside from the television series, Himetsu Sentai Gorenger was adapted into a manga that was written and illustrated by its series creator, Shotaro Ishinomori, which made its serialized debut in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shōnen Sunday Magazine from May 4, 1975, to August 17, 1975. It would be forty-five years later when Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga outside Japan for North American territories.

America would get its own adaptation of Super Sentai in the 1990s with the introduction of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers from Sabin Entertainment. It was quickly established into popular culture, along with a line of action figures and other toys formerly from Bandai, Hasbro, and now Playmates Toys. The series established its own stories and characters. It ran for 30 seasons, which aired from 1993 to 2023, and it has expanded into other media, including theatrical films, comic books, novels and video games. In April 2025, Toei confirmed that they were not involved in the upcoming Power Rangers Live-Action reboot.
