Surprisingly, there is breaking news regarding a news story that was reported on in 2021. Kadokawa’s ComicWalker service has announced that it will be resuming the serialization of Kenya Suzuki’s Please Tell Me! Galko-chan manga on Web Comic Apanda on Wednesday for possession of child pornography.
In their statement, they issued an apology to readers of the series and mentioned that the Apanda Editorial Staff is mindful and realizes that not only the stories, but also how creators can have a huge impact on society. The Staff promised readers that they would be working with Suzuki to provide more appealing work.
In December 2021, Galko-Chan Creator, Kenya Suzuki was arrested by the Aichi Prefectural Police for Suspicion of importing Child Pornography from Germany. He imported Child Pornography from Germany, violating Japan’s Customs Act. Kyodo News also mentioned that the resident from Funabashi City, Chiba allegedly had six photo collections that he received by international mail on two separate occasions in September and October of last year. According to the Authorities, Suzuki stated upon his arrest that he was “desperately wanting to acquire pictures of foreign children that couldn’t be obtained in Japan.” The report also adds that 46 books and publications allegedly containing child pornography from Suzuki’s residence were also confiscated by the Police. In that same month, Manga Creator, Battan recently revealed on Twitter last week that Suzuki was reported missing for a week to the police, but Battan later posted an update where they revealed that Suzuki had been located.

Shortly after news outlets began reporting about the incident, Kadokawa issued a press release through the Comicwalker service, announcing the suspension and the associated pages of Please Tell Me! Galko-Chan would be removed immediately. In March 2022, the Nagoya District Court’s Okazaki Branch found Suzuki guilty, handing down a one-year and two-month prison term on a three-year suspended sentence. The judge presiding over the case said the crime was “a malicious act that promotes the sexual exploitation of children and is detrimental to the health of society.” Suzuki admitted that he had purchased child sexual abuse materials for his own personal interest, and he apologized for his actions. He also expressed that he was ashamed and knew that he had to rehabilitate himself within society during the suspended sentence period.
Please Tell Me! Galko-Chan was created and illustrated by Kenya Suzuki. Suzuki originally began publishing the series on Twitter, but it was moved to Kadokawa’s ComicWalker website on June 27, 2014. As of November 2015, the manga had been viewed over one million times. The series is licensed for publication in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment. and would later be picked up for an anime adaptation which is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
