“I loved the dynamic Nik set up between Static and Batman in the Milestone 30th Anniversary Special where these characters first teamed up with each other, and the most exciting part of this new project has been exploring how different Terry and Virgil are from each other.”

“This story is intended to be a commentary on our overreliance on technology and the imminent dangers of becoming complacent and too comfortable using AI to substitute our imagination and human ingenuity. We now use our watches to find our phones, and we use our phones to connect to everything else. We don’t rely on our memories. We rely on technology to remember for us. That deeply concerns me. I worry that we are getting to a point where if all these things were to be suddenly taken away from us in an instant—at the rate we’re going now, humanity will be at a huge disadvantage.”

Batman Beyond was created by Paul Dini, Bruce Timm, and Alan Burnett. It is an animated series based on the Batman Comic Book Series created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane. Batman Beyond is set in a futuristic Gotham City, where an aging Bruce Wayne mentors a young Terry McGinnis as the new Batman. This series is a continuation of both Batman: The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures. Batman Beyond ran for three seasons (52 Episodes) which ran from January 1999 to December 2001, consisting of a direct-to-video feature film (Return of the Joker). The series also inspired a spin-off animated series titled The Zeta Project, a video game (which includes appearances in other video games and animation), and a comic book series and spin-off titles.

Static made his debut in a three-page preview in Milestone Comics‘ Icon #1 (May 1993) with his first full appearance in Static #1 (June 1993), consisting of the creative team of writers Dwayne McDuffie, and Robert L. Washington III, and illustrated by John Paul Leon. Since his debut, Static has been adapted into an animated television series (suited for younger audiences), had one video game adaptation, and has made appearances in comic books, and DC video games. An animated film featuring Static and other Milestone heroes was in development in 2021, but nothing has been mentioned since the DC Fandome presentation. As for the live-action film, Michael B. Jordan is producing the film with his company, Outlier Society Productions, and Reginald Hudlin (House PartyThe BoondocksMarshall) who was also part of Disney+’s “Safety”.
