For years, we have seen plenty of tributes to Stan Lee, including cameo appearances of Lee over the years, but this time the King of Comics, Jack Kirby got the tribute he rightfully deserved in Marvel Studios’ latest Box-Office Hit, The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Marvel’s First Family got a hero’s welcome at the Box Office, bringing in $100 million overseas and $218 million globally.
Like DC and Warner Bros’ Superhero film, Superman, Fantastic Four: First Steps relied on strong reviews and positive word-of-mouth at the Box Office, which will be its strength in the coming weeks at the Box Office. This is encouraging for Disney and Marvel Studios, which have both been struggling since last year’s billion-dollar hit, Deadpool & Wolverine, the studio’s two prior movies this year, February’s “Captain America: Brave New World” and May’s “Thunderbolts,” both ended up losing money against their $180 million budgets, according to Variety.
Speaking of Superman, despite a 57% decline it added $19.8 million from 78 territories. The Warner Bros and DC Superhero film has underperformed at the International Box Office with $213 million to date. One thing to note is that most all-audience tentpoles tend to earn around 60% of ticket sales at the international box office, with the remaining percentage from domestic markets. Despite all of it, it will power up to $502 million globally after three weekends of release. Keep in mind, it was expected to face competition with another Comic book-adapted Live-Action film, but time will tell how it will play further down the line.
North American Box-Office: 7-25/7-27 (Top Five):
- The Fantastic Four: First Steps– $117,644,828
- Superman– $24,851,443
- Jurassic World: Rebirth– $13,201,795
- F1: The Movie– $6,305,105
- Smurfs– $5,458,693
The Fantastic Four comic book series was created by artist Jack Kirby and writer Stan Lee. The very first issue was sold in November 1961, which introduced the ‘Marvel Method’ style of comic book production that creators such as Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, and Steve Ditko used. The Fantastic Four inspired different Comic Book Spin-off titles, Radio dramas, video games, and TV animated series (1967, 1978, 1996, and 2006) that included guest appearances on Super Hero Squad Show, Avengers! Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Hulk, and the Heroes of S.M.A.S.H. Their adventures were adapted into films (2005, 2007, and 2015) and video games. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is in Theaters now.

Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, the Fantastic Four must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer.
