Where’s the “Superhero Movie Fatigue”, or the “It won’t succeed because its “SuperWoke” Crowd? Oh, they are silent today, because Warner Bros and DC Studios finally got it right with their newest film, Superman, which earned $122 million Domestic Opening, $217 Million Globally.
Not even Far-Right Backlash (1,2) could hold the Man of Steel back at the Box Office. Following the report from three days ago, the numbers came down to a a solid domestic box office debut of $125 million from 4,135 theaters and $95 million from 79 markets overseas for an estimated global launch of $220 million. The film is a victory for DC Studios, which has struggled due to back-to-back flops (including its biggest Box Office Flop, The Flash, in which the company lost an estimated $155 million) and the pandemic era. The last Superhero flick to successfully shrug off Superhero Fatigue was Marvel Studios, Hugh Jackman, and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine, which launched to a jaw-dropping $211 million in summer 2024.
Warner Bros Discovery President and CEO, David Zaslav (best known for shelving and using it as a tax write-off, Batgirl, a former DC Studios film), took a victory lap for the success of James Gunn’s Superman Film. Zaslav decided to copy the success of Disney-Marvel Studios and have a separate studio led by separate executives, James Gunn and Peter Safran, who co-run DC Studios.

James Gunn also celebrated the success of the film on Threads, thanking fans for their enthusiasm and kind words over the past few days. It was Gunn’s second-biggest opening after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. According to THR, Superman joins the ranks of other recently successful films such as A Minecraft Movie, and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. Superman is the sixth WB title to open in first place this year, a feat no other studio has achieved thus far. Amazon has already listed pre-orders for Superman in the following categories:
