SAVE THE DATE! Warner Bros and Legendary have announced the streaming release date and service that will be the new home of their cultural phenomenon, A Minecraft Movie, which will stream globally on Max on Friday, June 20.
But that’s not all, it will be debuting on HBO linear on Saturday, June 21 at 8:00 p.m. ET. The film will also include an ASL (American Sign Language) edition, which will be performed by Deaf ASL Interpreter Sophia Morales, but will debut exclusively on Max as the film hits streaming (It is also important to note, that Prime Video also offers an ASL version too). The film focused on four misfits, consisting of Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison (Jason Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers), and Dawn (Danielle Brooks), who struggled with ordinary problems in the real world. Then one day, they are pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get home, they must navigate their way through the Overworld, master what they have learned, and protect the Overworld while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Jack Black).
Directed by Jared Hess, the film has been a major breakout hit, going on to gross over $951 million in theaters worldwide upon its launch in April. Currently, the film is the second-highest-grossing of the year, as well as the second-highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time, behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Pre-orders for A Minecraft Movie Blu-ray and DVD, 4K, and the Limited Edition 4K Steelbook are available now, and the physical media release is set for June 24.
A Minecraft Movie is the film adaptation of the popular sandbox video game, Minecraft, which was created by the Swedish Studio, Mojang Studios. Since Minecraft’s debut, it has influenced a video game spin-off, become a pop culture phenomenon, books, merchandise, manga, and has been used in educational settings.
