It’s getting closer to the second season premiere of the TV anime adaptation of Yukinobu Tatsu’s manga, DanDaDan, and the theatrical debut of the second season titled DanDaDan: Evil Eye made its presence felt at the North American Box Office, bringing in $3,548,268.
DanDaDan: Evil Eye made its debut on Friday, earning $1,508,463 and debuting at No.7 across 1,085 theaters in North America. After Friday, it would earn $938,962 on Saturday (Rank 10), $745,137 on Sunday (Rank 9th), and on Monday it collected $355,706 (Rank 8th). The final number as of Tuesday was $345,403, bringing it to $3,901,751. Evil Eye earned over three times more money at theaters than First Encounters, which only earned $1 million at the opening weekend. Both First Encounters and Evil Eye are compilations that cover the first three episodes of their respective seasons.
The DanDaDan franchise was one of the properties that Companies have become aware of how popular Anime has gotten over the years. According to ComicBook, Anime is expected to continue rising, with 2025 set to become the biggest year for the medium, with companies like Netflix, Amazon, and even Disney set to invest heavily. DanDaDan is one of GKIDS‘ biggest theatrical properties in Animation, aside from Studio Ghibli and other international animated properties. The DanDaDan TV Anime streams on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
Yukinobu Tatsu’s DanDaDan made its debut in Shueisha’s digital manga magazine, Shonen Jump Plus in April 2021 and is currently ongoing. As of April 2025, each chapter has been collected into 19 tankobon volumes. Viz Media publishes the manga and its chapters for English audiences, and Manga Plus also publishes the chapters for English audiences. Animation for both seasons was handled by Science Saru (Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken, Devilman Crybaby, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off). The TV Anime’s first season premiered in Japan on October 3 on TBS and MBS’s Super Animeism TURBO programming block. Netflix began streaming the anime worldwide on October 3 at 25:00 JST (effectively, October 4 at 1:00 a.m. JST). The series had 12 episodes. You can stream season one on Crunchyroll and Netflix. Season Two is set to debut on July 3rd.

DAN DA DAN follows Momo, a high school girl from a family of spirit mediums, and her classmate Okarun, an occult freak. The two of them start talking after Momo rescues Okarun from getting bullied. However, an argument ensues between them – Momo believes in ghosts but denies aliens, and Okarun believes in aliens but denies ghosts. To make the mutual deniers believe in each other, Momo goes to an abandoned hospital known for its UFO sightings, and Okarun goes to a tunnel that is said to be haunted. In each place, they encounter overwhelming paranormal activity that transcends comprehension. Amid these predicaments, Momo awakens her hidden power and Okarun gains the power of a curse to challenge the paranormal forces! Their fateful love begins as well!?
