James Gunn’s Superman Film got a new trailer and is already bringing in the big guns (and the Kaiju!) The Man of Steel stops a war single-handedly, gets an interview with Lois Lane, and gets arrested. But it included familiar foes and a new original character.

Speaking of new characters, making her debut in the DC Cinematic Universe is The Authority‘s Angela Spica, aka Engineer (María Gabriela de Faría), and the return of Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn taking over the role, replacing Pedro Pascal) with his own Justice League and Rick Flag Sr (Frank Grillo), which both play a part in the upcoming second season of Peacemaker. The trailer also showed Clark’s parents and more of Superman’s human side, something lacking in the last Cinematic Universe.

This has been described as the DCU’s True Beginning. This is Superman’s first solo film since Zack Snyder’s 2013 film, Man of Steel. A lot is riding on this film due to Warner Bros Discovery’s Superhero film division facing scrutiny due to constant box office flops, which includes its biggest Box Office Flop, The Flash, in which the company lost an estimated $155 million, and Joker: Folie à Deux, which also lost between $150 million to $200 million. The new DCU soft-launched in December with James Gunn’s animated series, Creature Commandos. Following Superman, fans can look forward to next year’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (based on writer Tom King and Artist Bilquis Evely’s comic book story) movie, and the Green Lantern Corps with the down-to-Earth TV series Lanterns.
