Art Updates: The Creative Process of How I Create Art

Advertisements

It’s the return of Art Updates and I wanted to share the creative process of how I create art. Now, the past few times when I have drawn out an illustration or commission, I have done it digitally through Medibang Paint. If you’re a new reader, be sure to check out my Ko-Fi and Red’s Art Corner for Art Updates. In this walk-through, I will be using a new illustration I have drawn recently of a character from Kenny Ruiz’s Team Phoenix. You can read the reviews at this link.

Let’s start with the first sketch. Whenever I start on a project, whether it’s a commission or something personal (which I need to share more personal art), first, I draw it out traditionally in a sketch to plan out how I want it to look. I do apologize for how messy the sketch looks, this was drawn during an anxiety attack a few nights ago. This started as a practice sketch, just to try to break out of an anxiety-induced art block, I chose Leo to practice with due to how well his design stood out and he wasn’t the stereotypical meathead that is often portrayed in media (Comic Books, Films, Television) who were just there for comedic purpose or created to just to be an enforcer.

Digital Inking and Coloring

Next, is the Digital portion of this walk-through, normally I would ink something traditionally, but I messed up on inking it due to an ongoing anxiety attack, so, I chose to ink it in an art program called Medibang Paint. It is available for Windows, Mac, iPad, iPhone, and Android for anyone interested in trying the program out. Normally, if I find any little mistakes I made in my art, I fix them on Medibang Paint when I ink and color it there, that way the line art and colors look smoother and more professional. But keep in mind that it will take patience due to how time-consuming it can be. When coloring the image, patience is another thing you need, when figuring out what colors to use via shading or filling in certain areas that didn’t quite cut the final process. The best thing about Medibang Paint is the tools and items that you can use in creating artwork, it even offers artists a way to create manga, a venture I am working into for a webcomic series.

  • Stylus S PEN (Optional, I do my work by index finger)
  • Patience and Determination

There you have it, that is how I create artwork, whether it be for Commissions or Personal. As always thanks for the support and there will be new art soon. If you’re interested in leaving a tip, you can leave it at this link, it helps the website and me to keep it going.
