Amazon Prime Video To Stream Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Worldwide

Big news for Mobile Suit Gundam Fans, Amazon made its move to get the streaming rights to Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX TV anime, which will be streaming on their Prime Video Service, starting on April 8th.

According to their press release, the TV anime will stream simultaneously with Japan across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide on Prime Video, beginning on Tuesday, April 8th at 1:00 am JST (10:00 am CST). Subtitled and Dubbed versions will be available the same day as it premieres with new episodes rolling out weekly.

It was the first-ever collaboration between Studio Khara, known for the Evangelion series, and Sunrise, the studio behind the Gundam franchise. It’s directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki (Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time), with a screenplay by Yoji Enokido and Hideaki Anno. Keisuke Oishi, Country Manager of Prime Video Japan, and Kazuya Tsurumaki, the Director of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX had this to say about the digital streaming announcement:

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- made its debut in theaters on January 17, and debuted at #1 in the Japanese box office in its opening weekend. It sold 352,500 tickets and earned 598,832,300 yen (about US$3.85 million) in its first three days. It stayed at #1 in its second weekend in the Japanese box office, selling 306,000 tickets and earning 527,562,300 yen (about US$3.39 million). To this day, The film has sold over 1.55 million tickets for over 2.5 billion yen (about US$16.7 million) in the 31 days since it opened in Japan. The film has now surpassed the total all-time Japanese earnings of the 1982 Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in a Space anime film, which earned 2.3 billion yen (about US$15.41 million in current conversion) at the Japanese box office. This made it the second-highest-earning film in the Mobile Suit Gundam Franchise, with Mobile Suit Gundam Seed FREEDOM holding the all-time high of 4,796,455,740 yen (about US$32.14 million) as of its initial run’s final weekend in May 2024.

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX also made its North American Theatrical debut recently, debuting at No. 10, bringing in $532,173 on Friday in 784 theaters across North America. The next day bringing in $213,337 while staying at the same rank. The Final day brought $171,154, bringing in a total of $916,664. It was already estimated that it would bring in over 890k, its estimated gross worldwide sits at $19,997,898.

Amate Yuzuriha is a high-school student living peacefully in a space colony floating in outer space.

When she meets a war refugee named Nyaan, Amate is drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport known as Clan Battle.

Under the entry name “Machu,” she throws herself into fierce battle day after day, piloting the GQuuuuuuX. Then an unidentified Gundam mobile suit pursued by both the space force and the police appears before her, along with its pilot, a boy named Shuji.

Now their world is about to enter a new era.
