In a surprise move, the newest film in the My Hero Academia franchise, My Hero Academia: You’re Next has been released on Digital. Fans will now be able to rent or purchase the film digitally (for North America and Canada).
My Hero Academia the Movie: You’re Next opened in Japan on August 2. The film sold 608,500 tickets, earning approximately 895 million yen (about USD 6.28 million) in its first three days, and ranked first in the Japanese box office. The film would make its North American Theatrical debut at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles on October 6. Cheer screenings for the film were also held in New York and Los Angeles on October 9. Two days later, Toho International started screening the film in select US theaters on October 11, earning USD 3,007,420 in its opening weekend and ranking #8 at the U.S. box office. The film’s gross international earnings are now at USD 27,182,835 and its gross worldwide earnings are at USD 32,224,616.

My Hero Academia the Movie: You’re Next takes place around the seventh season, and introduces a new original villain faction, a big criminal organization called the “Gorrini Family.” Kohei Horikoshi, the creator of My Hero Academia, served as the general supervisor and original character designer, Tensai Okamura (Darker than Black) directed the film at BONES. Returning staff members from the television series and previous films include scriptwriter Yōsuke Kuroda, character designer Yoshihiko Umakoshi, and composer Yuki Hayashi.
My Hero Academia was first serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine from July 2014 to August 2024, with its chapters collected in 42 tankōbon volumes. Viz Media publishes the manga for English Audiences digitally and in print in North America. Shueisha’s Manga Plus also publishes the chapters digitally for English Audiences. It has also inspired manga spin-offs (MHA: Vigilantes, School Briefs, and Team-Up Missions), a light novel series, and a TV Anime that consists of seven seasons (available to watch on Crunchyroll) with an eighth season to air in Fall 2025.
