TRILLION GAME Beats Cap. America: Brave New World at the Japanese Box Office

Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World may be proving critics wrong in North America, but at the Japanese Box Office, it was a different story according to the latest box office numbers and Kogyo Tsushinsha. The newest live-action film based on Riichiro Inagaki and Ryoichi Ikegami’s TRILLION GAME manga series debuted at No. 1 during Valentine’s Day Weekend.

The live-action feature film opened in 345 theaters in Japan on February 14, 2025, earning 616 million yen (4.06 million USD) on 438,000 admissions in its first three-day weekend, it is also a sequel to the television drama of the same name. Meanwhile, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s latest Superhero flick, second place, earning 463 million yen (3.01 million USD) in its opening weekend in Japan. Meanwhile, the Trillion Game film ranked fifth in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.79/5.0 based on 823 reviews, while Captain America: Brave New World placed second with a rating of 3.91 / based on 9,467 reviews. TRILLION GAME is written by Riichiro Inagaki and illustrated by Ryoichi Ikegami, it was first serialized in Shogakukan’s seinen manga magazine Big Comic Superior in December 2020 and is currently an ongoing title consisting of ten tankobon volumes as of February 14, 2025. In February 2024, announced that they licensed the manga for English publication on September 17 of the same year, Viz Media also released the chapters online for simupub release (Only available to read on the website, due to it being an M-rated title.) The manga also inspired a TV Drama adaptation that is available to watch on Netflix and a TV Anime Adaptation is available to stream on Crunchyroll. Pre-orders are available now for TRILLION GAME Vol. 4, which goes on sale on March 18, 2025.
