Four days ago, Toei released new information on the upcoming Super Sentai Series, No.1 Sentai Gozyuger, which celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the Super Sentai Franchise! It has also been confirmed that it will premiere in February 2025.
These new heroes will be facing off against the evil army, an army of creatures called The Number One Monsters, creatures that have been described to be the best in all fields. It is up to the Gozyuger team to rescue people who have been caught in this merciless conflict. One other thing that has been teased in the new visual is new items called Sentai Rings. (With Each Ring featuring different Sentai members and their guardians)! The Gozyuger members compete against each other to collect the rings. They may be a sentai team, but they are still rivals. In addition to the five competing against each other, rivals with the powers of the previous Reds will appear one after another! It will be Sentai vs. Sentai as veteran Red Sentai members throughout the franchise’s history will be making appearances in later episodes. Toei describes the theme of this new series as Friends and Rivals.
Let’s look over the new team and their new weapons, starting with the newest Red Sentai, Gozyu Wolf (Wolf), who has been described as having a good heart but also a sharp tongue, then there is Gozyu Wolf’s complete opposite, Gozyu Leon (Lion), who is a charismatic warrior but a real people-pleaser. Gozyu Tyranno (Tyrannosaur) is strong, powerful, and very naive which gets them into trouble which is followed up with Gozyu Eagle (Eagle), a fun-loving playboy, who boasts about their light footwork. Finally, a first in the Super Sentai Franchise history, the first female Black Sentai Warrior in the regular cast, the Black Gozyu Unicorn (Unicorn) has been described as having a cool personality but is very family-oriented. As for their weapons, we’re introduced to the marvelous TEGA SWORD, which not only is part of their transformation items, but it can change into a giant robot! One robot changes into five forms (form changes) and will be quite useful in battle.
The staff was announced, which includes screenwriter, Akiko Inoue, who made her Kamen Rider screenwriting debut with Kamen Rider Gotchard and is now preparing to make her debut in the Super Sentai Franchise as the No.1 Sentai Gozyuger series’ main writer. Akiko is the daughter of Toshiki Inoue and granddaughter of Masaru Igami, the original screenwriter for the original Kamen Rider Franchise during the Showa Era. The series will premiere on February 16 at 9:30 am (February 15 at 7:30 pm EST) on TV Asahi and its 23 affiliates, with new episodes airing on Sundays.
