As many of you were aware due to ongoing leaks, there have been talks of Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter manga going on another hiatus. That has been seemingly confirmed by a Twitter user TheHxHSource, the series creator, and now Shueisha.

While we don’t approve of leaks, it is understandable that Hunter x Hunter goes on another brief hiatus. Togashi does provide updates on his social media page concerning his series and his health, most recently he posted a message to his fans regarding two chapters and the surgery:
Finished two chapters.
I had surgery. Local anesthesia.
It was for medical treatment reasons, so they explained everything.
It was great to learn it.
So I think it was a valuable experience.
Thank you very much.
Weekly Shonen Jump may be a Weekly publication, but Hunter x Hunter has done a fair job of keeping up with planning out new chapters behind the scenes, it is hard to keep it on a weekly schedule due to Togashi’s health problems and chronic back pain. Nevertheless, the chapters are published in “blocks”. Togashi prepares and then serializes around 10 chapters (which usually is the number of chapters in a tankobon volume, which varies on each series.) Keep in mind that he has had problems with his back for years, where at certain times he cannot complete routine tasks and complete new chapters, he has hired assistants to help him with serialization. In the past, he didn’t want to hire any assistants, he wanted to do the work on his own. It is with a grim reminder that Yoshirio Togashi has already made plans on how Hunter x Hunter would end in case something were to happen, or if he passed away. Shueisha confirmed on their Manga Plus service that the series is “On a Hiatus, wait for it to resume.”

Hunter x Hunter made its debut in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine in March 1998 and currently is still an ongoing series. It consists of 38 tankobon volumes as of September 1994 and is considered to be the best-selling manga series of all time with 84 million copies in circulation by July 2022. It inspired a manga spin-off called Kurapika’s Memories, two anime adaptions, OVAs, two animated films, CDs, musicals, stage plays, video games, and various merchandise. Viz Media publishes the manga for English Audiences and publishes the chapters on their Shonen Jump app, Shueisha also publishes the chapters in English on their Manga Plus app.
If someone from Shueisha happens to read this or Togashi finds this, hope you get plenty of rest, and we’re happy to hear the surgery went well.
