Another iconic manga is making its return to bookstore shelves 34 years later in a brand-new Omnibus Collection, and that’s Kenichi Sonoda’s Gunsmith Cats.
Dark Horse Comics confirmed in July that it would be launching a new Omnibus Edition of Gunsmith Cats, Dana Lewis, and Toren Smith translated Gunsmith Cats Omnibus Volume 1, with lettering and retouching by Studio Cutie. Dark Horse Comics described the series as “a non-stop, action-packed, nostalgia-filled love letter to those buddy cop blockbuster movies of the 1980s and 90s with huge chase scenes and even bigger hair!“
The first volume measures 5.75 x 8.25,” and will be a paperback omnibus and consist of 596 pages. It will go on sale on March 4, 2025, in bookstores and February 5 for Comic Shops, with the second edition consisting of 640 pages, a paperback measuring 5 3/4″ x 8 1/4″, set to go on sale on June 17, 2025. The company previously released the manga in nine volumes from 1996 to 2002 and then released a four-volume revised edition in 2007. They also released the Gunsmith Cats Burst sequel from 2007 to 2010.
Kenichi Sonoda’s Gunsmith Cats was first serialized in Kodansha’s monthly Seinen Manga Magazine titled Monthly Afternoon from 1991 to 1997, it would be collected in 8 tankobon volumes. Years later, it would be followed up by the sequel series, Gunsmith Cats Burst from September 2004 to October 2005. Gunsmith Cats would inspire a 3-episode OVA mini-series.

Rally Vincent runs Gunsmith Cats—a gun shop in Illinois, with her partner, demolitions expert and former call girl Minnie-May Hopkins. But Rally’s “real” job doesn’t pay the bills; her hobby does. Her hobby is bounty hunting: bringing the most wanted men and women in the Chicago area to justice—dressed in her sharp suit and tie and driving her Shelby Cobra GT 500!
But Rally and Minnie-May have their work cut out for them in Gunsmith Cats Omnibus Volume 1, with corrupt lawyers and cops, fetish-fueled hitmen, and crazed cocaine kingpins bringing the copters, the big rigs, and even the anti-tank guns onto the streets and the freeways of Chicagoland in a windshield whirlwind of double-crosses, car chases, and shootouts!
