It isn’t a secret that the newest Mononoke Film was a big success, but the second film in the new film trilogy is expanding the world of Mononoke more with Chapter Two, focusing on the tale of the Fire Rat in Mononoke the Movie Trilogy: Chapter 2 (Gekijōban Mononoke Dai-Ni-Shō: Hinezumi), which is set to premiere in Japanese theaters on March 14, 2025.
It has been confirmed that Hiroshi Kamiya will return to reprise the role of the Medicine Seller, joining him will be Haruka Tomatsu as Botan Ōtomo, Yōko Hikasa as Fuki Tokita, and Yūki Kaji as Saburōmaru Tokita. Two new cast members have joined the second film:
Rōjū Ōtomo– Kenyuu Horiuchi (Naruto: Shippuden, Bakuman., Dorohedoro)
Yoshimichi Tokita– Chō (Bakuman., Samurai Sentai Shinkenger, One Piece)

EOTA and Twin Engine are handling the animation production with Kenji Nakamura returning to direct the Mononoke Film. Kitsuneko Nagata provides the original character designs, Yuuichi Takahashi provides the animation character designs and serves as chief animation director, and Taku Iwasaki provides the music. The first film, Mononoke The Movie: Phantom in the Rain is currently streaming on Netflix.
The anime series premiered in 2007 and consisted of 12 episodes, Mononoke was a spin-off series of Ayakashi – Samurai Horror Tales. You can watch the Mononoke anime series on Crunchyroll, and you can read my review for the anime series at this link.
