It’s the collaboration that no one saw coming, two titans in the Giant Mecha Anime genre are teaming up for a new Mobile Suit Gundam series titled Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX (Pronounced Geeku-Akusu). It was revealed during GundamInfo’s “Gundam Conference WINTER 2024” stream that Studio Khara (Evangelion, Shin Ultraman, Shin Kamen Rider) would be working alongside Sunrise (Gundam, Cowboy Bebop, City Hunter) who has handled the Gundam Series since its debut in 1979.
Mobile Suit Gundam GQUUUUUUX will air in Japan on the Nihon Television Network stations, no release date has been given. As for a theatrical release, a theatrical version using re-edited episodes, titled Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-, will screen in Japanese theaters (estimated to be shown in 373 theaters nationwide) on January 17, 2025. A special teaser visual was also released, drawn by Mechanic Designer, Ikuto Yamashita. Tickets for the theatrical version go on sale on Friday, December 13, more information can be found at the film’s Official Website.
Amate Yuzuriha is a high-school student living peacefully in a space colony floating in outer space.
When she meets a war refugee named Nyaan, Amate is drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport known as Clan Battle.
Under the entry name “Machu,” she throws herself into fierce battle day after day, piloting the GQuuuuuuX. Then an unidentified Gundam mobile suit pursued by both the space force and the police appears before her, along with its pilot, a boy named Shuji.
Now their world is about to enter a new era.
The staff and cast list were announced, starting with the staff we have Kazuya Tsurumaki (Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance, Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon a Time) will serve as the director, Yoji Enokido (Sailor Moon, Revolutionary Girl Utena, RahXephon) will handle the series composition, character designer take and mechanical designer Ikuto Yamashita. Listed below are the cast members:
Amate Yuzuriha (MACHU)– Tomoyo Kurosawa (Sound! Euphonium, Scarlet Nexus, Aikatsu!)
Shuji Ito– Shimba Tsuchiya (Ryômaden, Haikyu!!, Blue Orchestra)
Nyaan– Yui Ishikawa (Attack on Titan, How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom, Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure)
A promotional video for the GQuuuuuuX HG 1/144 plastic model narrated by Tomoyo Kurosawa is now also streaming. The model is set to be released in Japan on January 17, 2025.
