Two months until the new animated film based on Riyoko Ikeda’s iconic Shojo manga, The Rose of Versailles makes its debut in Japan and it has been confirmed that Ayaka will be performing the film’s theme song.
Singer and Songwriter Ayaka will be performing -Versailles-, where she shared her excitement and how honored that she was given the opportunity to perform music for the new film. Joining her will be actress and former Takarazuka star Hitomi Kuroki, she will be serving as the narrator of the film. Hitomi Kuroki was a former member of the Takarazuka Revue, which has performed musicals based on The Rose Of Versailles manga since 1974 — as the top Musume-yaku from 1981 to 1985. A preview screening will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2024 in Tokyo with a stage greeting event that will feature the following cast members: Aya Hirano (Marie Antoinette), Miyuki Sawashiro (Oscar François de Jarjayes), Kazuki Katō (Hans Axel von Fersen), Toshiyuki Toyonaga (André Grandier), the film’s Director, Ai Yoshimura, and other stars from the film. Hitomi Kuroki will also be joining the event, which was announced recently, a special lottery is being held for the event, and fans will be able to enter for a chance to attend it on the Official Website. The screening will begin at 3:00 pm JST, followed by the stage greeting event at 5:00 pm JST, and will end at 5:40 pm JST. The film is set to debut in theaters on January 31, 2025.
The Rose of Versailles was first serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Margaret Magazine from May 1972 to December 1973, it would return as a revival series from April 2013 to February 2018. The manga series consists of 14 volumes and UDON Entertainment licensed and published the manga for English Audiences in five omnibus collections. UDON would also publish the Rose of Versailles side story manga in 2023. This Shojo manga title focused on topics such as Feminism, Gender Roles, and French Culture. It was set up as a historical drama during the French Revolution. It would also inspire a TV Anime adaptation, musicals, and a Live-Action Film. Finally, in 2022, there was a special art exhibition that would celebrate its 50th Anniversary.

Oscar François de Jarjeyes is a young noblewoman raised as a son by her father. As commander of Marie Antoinette’s palace guard, Oscar is brought face-to-face with the luxury of King Louis XVI’s court at Versailles. Joined by her servant André, Oscar is privy to the intrigue and deceit of France’s last great royal regime.
