James Gunn Confirms Krypto the Super Dog will be in the new Superman Film

Everyone’s favorite furry Superhero is gonna make his mark in the newest Superman Film. According to a new announcement from the film’s director, Krypto the Super Dog will be appearing in the new Superman Film.

Superman Film Director and DC Studio CEO, James Gunn announced on social media recently that Krypto will be joining Superman in the new film in the Summer of 2025, the announcement in honor of Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. Gunn mentioned that the inspiration for Krypto came from his Dog Ozu, who he adopted shortly after he started writing Superman.

Krypto made his debut in Action Comics #210 in March 1955, created by Otto Binder and Curt Swan. Since his debut, he has made numerous appearances in comic books, animated television shows (including his animated series), animated films, and Video Games. Krypto’s recent appearance in a film was for Warner Bros/DC film DC: LEAGUE OF SUPER PETS, where he was voiced by WWE’s Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, opposite Kevin Hart as Batman’s caped crusading canine Ace.

Superman was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Superman made his heroic debut in Action Comics #1 in June 1938 (Cover Dated June 1938, published on April 18, 1938). Since his debut, Superman has been adapted into numerous forms of merchandise and media such as Television, Films, Radio Serials, Novels, Theater, and Video Games. Superman makes its debut in Theaters on July 11, 2025.
