After months of waiting, the Sonic and Shadow fans can finally breathe easily now that Paramount Pictures and SEGA finally released the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
That’s right, everyone’s favorite neutral speedster, Shadow the Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves) has finally made his way onto the big screen after being teased at the end of the second film. The third film is set to explore new areas of the Video Game Universe created by SEGA.

Ben Schwartz, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, and Idris Elba will be returning to reprise their roles as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, while we also see the return of James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski and Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone. Jim Carrey will be taking on duo roles, returning as Doctor Robotnik and taking up the role of Gerald Robotnik, the grandfather of Ivo Robotnik and Maria, portrayed by Alyla Browne (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, Nine Perfect Strangers). Jeff Fowler, who directed the first two films, returns for the third. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be released in North America on December 20 and in Japan it will be released on December 27.
Shadow, Gerald, and Maria were first introduced in the platform game sequel Sonic Adventure 2 on the SEGA Dreamcast on June 19, 2001. The trio (Gerald and Maria in flashback sequences) would make another appearance again in the spin-off title Shadow the Hedgehog and other areas throughout Comic books and on the TV anime series, Sonic X. Shadow plays a big role in the new video game Sonic x Shadow Generations available on October 25 for the following consoles: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows.
Sonic the Hedgehog returns to the big screen this holiday season in his most thrilling adventure yet. Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails reunite against a powerful new adversary, Shadow, a mysterious villain with powers unlike anything they have faced before. With their abilities outmatched in every way, Team Sonic must seek out an unlikely alliance in hopes of stopping Shadow and protecting the planet.
Director Jeff Fowler returns along with our all-star cast including Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Idris Elba, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, Adam Pally, Lee Majdoub, newcomers Alyla Browne and Krysten Ritter, with Keanu Reeves joining the franchise as Shadow the Hedgehog.
