If you’re familiar with the Paolo From Tokyo YouTube SeriesA Day In The Life,” each episode offers a look into the life of someone’s daily routine including insight from Paolo and a one-on-one interview. Paolo has featured a variety of creators in his docuseries, Reiji Miyajima ( Rent-A-Girlfriend, The Shiunji Family Children, AKB49: Ren’ai Kinshi Jōrei), Masa (Bandai Namco Video Game Programmer), and Yuzuchi (A Cosplayer Worker), but his newest video features Anime Director Shū Honma and his work on the newest original anime, Mayonaka Punch!

In this episode, we get to see what it is like to work as a Japanese Anime Director in Tokyo Japan, and with an Anime Production Studio. Cataloging his morning routine, daily work activities, up to night time. Paolo also offers insight into Japanese Work Culture in an animation production studio. Shu and Paolo also point out that it is typical in the anime industry up to 70% of its workers are freelancers. The culture is unique with it consisting of 200 people to make an episode. The primary focus on this was Shu’s work on Mayonaka Punch, a trip to a voice acting studio, and his wife’s work on the same project.

Mayonaka Punch is an original anime television series produced by P.A. Works. The series was created by Dōga Tōkō Shōjo, and directed by Shū Honma with Hideaki Shirasaka serving as screenwriter, Ryōta Arima adapting Tsukasa Kotobuki’s original character designs for animation and tape, and Raku composing the music. It was a series that reunited the main staff of Ya Boy Kongming! The series made its debut in July and is currently streaming on Crunchyroll. Mayonaka Punch would get two book adaptations, the first was a manga adaption written by Dōga Tōkō Shōjo and illustrated by Tomomi Usui in Kadokawa Shoten’s Young Ace magazine in March 2024, while it also received a light novel adaption written by Tsuzuro Hibi and illustrated by Tsukasa Kotobuki, published by Fujimi Shobo in July 2024.
