Mononoke Anime Confirms Film Trilogy, Second Part Release Set For March 2025

Mononoke the Movie: Karakasa made its debut last weekend and the team behind the new film is already thinking of the future, announcing a brand-new film trilogy. The staff for the first film revealed that the second film is currently in production.

The second film titled Gekijōban Mononoke Second Chapter: Hinezumi (Fire Rat) will premiere in Japan on March 14, 2025. Movie-goers will be able to purchase tickets on August 2.

Speaking of tickets, the staff for the film also revealed a new look at the Mubichike Advance Ticket Card Designs for the first round, printed on an A4 Visual Card with the film’s announcement visual, printed on Washi (Japanese Paper). Keep in mind, that these will be available for a limited time and in limited quantity beginning on Friday, August 2.

Mononoke The Movie: Karakasa also is celebrating its recent win according to Anime News Network’s Joanna Cayanan, the first film won the Axis: Satoshi Kon Award for Excellence in Animation for best-animated feature film at the 28th annual Fantasia International Film Festival, currently happening from July 18 to August 4 in Montreal.

The film premiered on July 26, it was originally set to debut last year but it was delayedEOTA and Twin Engine handled the animation production with Kenji Nakamura returning to direct the Mononoke Film. The anime series premiered in 2007 and consisted of 12 episodes, Mononoke was a spin-off series of Ayakashi – Samurai Horror Tales. You can watch the Mononoke anime series on Crunchyroll, and be sure to check out Mononoke The Movie: Karakasa in theaters now, the film’s second-week promotional gift was unveiled on Twitter, and fans will be able to pick up a special Washi-Style Talisman Sticker! The stickers will be given out in random colors consisting of Red, Blue, and Black starting on August 2. The gifts will be available also for a limited time, and one item per person.
