Captain America Takes Flight In First ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Trailer

Ever since Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson took on the mantle of Captain America at the end of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, fans have been waiting for a first look at Wilson’s Captain America in action. Marvel released the first teaser trailer for Captain America: Brave New World.

The new trailer showcased another well-known figure, the newly elected United States President, Thaddeus Ross. Taking on the role is Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones, Star Wars, The Fugitive), a role that was portrayed by the late William Hurt. We also see familiar faces that make their return as well, such as Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly), Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez), and Tim Blake Nelson returning as Samuel Sterns, AKA The Leader, for the first time since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. The final part of the trailer teased a showdown with Red Hulk.

There were new additions to the cast including Shira Haas (The Zookeeper’s Wife, Asia, Bodies) as Ruth Bat-Seraph (Known as Sabra), who has been rewritten as a former Black Widow, who is a high-ranking U.S. Government Agent who has earned the trust of the new president. Ruth Bat-Seraph (Sabra) was created by Writer Bill Mantlo and artist Sal Buscema. She made her first appearance in Incredible Hulk Issue #256 (February 1981) as a Israeli superhero who served as a Mossad agent. There have been calls to boycott the new film, for example, those who were pro-Israel had an issue with changing the character’s allegiance to a U.S. agency. While those who are anti-Israel are protesting the character due to her roots. For an in-depth look into this and the calls for boycotting the film, The Hollywood Reporter has further details. Joining the cast too are Giancarlo EspositoLiv Tyler, and Xosha Roquemore. The film is directed by Julius Onah and produced by Kevin Feige and Nate MooreLouis D’Esposito and Charles Newirth serve as executive producers. The film premieres in theaters on February 14, 2025.

Sam Wilson was created by writer Stan Lee and Artist Gene Colan. Wilson made his heroic debut in Captain America Issue #117 (September 1969) and as Captain America in CAPTAIN AMERICA: SENTINEL OF LIBERTY (1998) #8 by Mark Waid and Cully Hamner, and years later in Captain America Issue #25 (December 2014) by Remender and Stuart Immonen. Since his debut, Sam Wilson has made numerous appearances in comic books, TV Animated Shows, films, and video games. Thaddeus E. “Thunderbolt” Ross was created by writer Stan Lee and Artist Jack “The King” Kirby. Ross made his debut as a Nemesis for the Hulk in The Incredible Hulk Issue One (May 1962), and would eventually become an uninhibited, tactically intelligent adversary for the Hulk as the Red Hulk (Created by Writer Jeph Loeb and Artist Ed McGuinness) in HULK Issue One (January 2008). Thaddeus E. Ross would also make numerous appearances in comic books, animated TV shows, films, and Video Games.
