As the rebooted Urusei Yatsura TV Anime reached its conclusion, another surprising announcement was made regarding Rumiko Takahashi’s Classic Shonen Manga, Ranma 1/2 is getting a new anime adaptation.

According to the announcement from Rumiko Takahashi’s Official Twitter Account, there are plans for a new anime involving her shonen series, Ranma 1/2. A news stream has been planned for July 17 at 6:00 p.m. JST (5:00 a.m. EDT). Where we will learn more about the project at that time.
Fans of the manga series have rejoiced regarding the news about the project, especially among those in the Voice Actor Community. Some share excitement over what a potential English dub would mean to those in the LGBTQIA+ community, having a gender-queer cast take on this series would certainly be a game-changer, and this writer is here for it.
Ranma 1/2 was first serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine from August 1986 to March 1996, consisting of 407 chapters collected into 38 tankōbon volumes. The manga would inspire two anime adaptations, three animated films, 11 OVAs, 17 video game adaptions, and a live-action special. Viz Media publishes the manga for English Audiences and has it available to read on their website.

Years ago, Genma promised his old friend Soun Tendo that Ranma would marry one of Soun’s three daughters and carry on the family’s martial arts school. Except that the girl picked to be Ranma’s bride doesn’t seem to like him, Ranma keeps getting into fights…and did we mention that whole changing into a girl thing?
