Last month, NHK World Japan streamed a new documentary in part of its Anime Manga Explosion Program, focusing on Studio M2’s Masao Maruyama. This time, we’re getting a brand-new documentary focusing on Legendary Creator and Character Designer, Yoshitaka Amano, best known for his iconic work such as Yatterman, Casshan, and Final Fantasy.

In the newest documentary, Amano discusses his creative process as a professional artist, how it influences the world one could create. But that’s not all, it also focuses on his iconic career. From the early beginning at 16 years old, working at Tatsunoko Production (Speed Racer, Casshan, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman), working with Yoshida Tatsuo, up to creating iconic concept art for Final Fantasy and breathtaking illustrations that have been featured in novels such as Vampire Hunter D and Guin Saga.

The documentary is available now to watch on NHK World-Japan’s website and will be available until May 26, 2025. This documentary featured several guest appearances including Sasagawa Hiroshi (Speed Racer, Time Bokan, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman), Yūzō Satō (Exception), and Shibuya Kazuko (Square Enix Art Director).
