A year ago, the friends of the late voice actor, Billy Kametz organized a charity video game stream in his honor. They raised over $15k for the Colon Cancer Coalition, beating the fundraising goal throughout a 12-hour stream of Super Mario 64.
With the success of the Billy Kametz 120 Star Challenge, Billy’s friends decided to make it an annual event. Playing Super Mario 64 can wear a person out, so this year they’re spicing things up by adding more of Billy’s favorite games!
The event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday, May 25, 2024, and will be available to stream on YouTube. It all starts with a competitive speedrun of the original Super Mario Bros. on NES, as each player attempts to beat the game the fastest—with warps allowed—or get the farthest in 10 minutes. After that, they will be switching gears (I couldn’t resist a Mario Kart Pun!) to a six-cup game of Mario Kart. It will be followed by a round-robin-themed Mario Party competition, leading up to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate competition. Each game has a Star value attached to it, and the player who earns the most overall Stars will be crowned the winner. You can learn more about the concept, schedule, and scoring system at the official website.
Billy Kametz was well-known not only for his iconic voice acting but he was known for being a great person with a bright smile, a great friend, and a hero to many. He was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer in April 2022 and passed away on June 9, 2022. You can join the annual charity event for a good cause and to celebrate and honor Kametz and his legacy. The event begins on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 10 am EST.
