Netflix added another Dragon Quest series to its anime lineup. The anime adaptation of Riku Sanjō and Kōji Inada’s Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai. A series that many have considered to be overlooked.
The anime adaptation is based on the manga written by Riku Sanjō, illustrated by Kōji Inada, and based on the iconic Dragon Quest Game Franchise. It made its debut in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in October 1989 and ended in December 1996. The series is collected in 37 tankobon volumes and consists of two spin-off manga titles, two animated adaptations, and three video game adaptions.
It will feature both the Sub and Dub versions of the series. The series premiered in October 2020 and ended in October 2022. Crunchyroll and Hulu streamed the anime as it aired in Japan, with Hoopla also streaming the English Dub.
The world that was once afflicted by Hadlar, the Dark Lord, has regained peace in the hands of a swordsman called the “hero” and his companions. Delmurin Island became a place where monsters released from the Dark Lord lived.
Dai, who is the only human on the island and longs to be a hero, lives in peace with the monsters. However, that life completely changes with the resurrection of the Dark Lord Hadlar. With promises from teachers, encounters with friends, and a destiny that cannot be escaped… In order to save the world, the adventure of Dai and his quest to be a hero begins!
