Godzilla Minus One Debuted In The U.S. Box Office’s Top Three

It truly was a kaiju-sized battle at the box office. Recently, Toho International’s Godzilla: Minus One made its monstrous debut on December 1st, going up against The Hunger Games Prequel Film, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, and the Queen Bee’s Concert Film titled Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé. Godzilla may be powerful, but it was Beyoncé who stood tall at No. 1, as Godzilla: Minus One stayed in the top five at No. 3.

Beyoncé’s new film, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé began the weekend by grossing $11.5 million on its opening day from 2,539 locations, which also included strong Thursday Previews with $5.1 million. Renaissance is expected to match up with Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, which had an impressive October debut and has been confirmed that it has surpassed $250 million worldwide. Renaissance grossed a total of $21,000,000 in its Opening Weekend. This proved that both Beyoncé and Taylor Swift’s Concert Documentaries have accomplished a new record, where two concert documentaries opened at the top of the domestic charts.

Next up, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, which is staying in the top five for its third weekend at No. 2. Lionsgate’s prequel film based on the successful Young Adult Dystopia novel series has been projected to have a 45% decline in its weekend tally at $16 million, still a strong showing.

Finally, it is good to be a Godzilla fan. Whether it was Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on Apple TV + or the upcoming sequel to Godzilla Vs. Kong titled Godzilla x Kong, the King of Monsters made a monstrous debut for his new film Godzilla Minus One. Toho International self-distributed its first North American release of Godzilla Minus One grossing $11,031,954 at the box office, debuting at No.3, becoming the highest-grossing foreign film in the US so far, surpassing the previous holder’s opening day weekend, Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba: Swordsmith Village.
