Ever since the Hunter x Hunter manga moved away from a weekly schedule, author Yoshirio Togashi has been working at his own pace. If you recall, Togashi was experiencing several health ailments that were well-documented, which caused several hiatuses for Hunter x Hunter in the past. But in the newest interview with the creator, he shared something with the fans in case something were to happen, or if he passed away.
During an interview on a late-night talk show called the Iwakura and Yoshizumi Program was part of a two-episode special answering questions regarding Hunter x Hunter.

In a letter to the show, Togashi mentioned that he had an A, B, and C ending scenario, each with varying levels of praise and negativity. Ending “A” had an 8:2 ratio. “B” would be an evenly split reaction. “C” would be a 1:9 ratio. Even with the high negativity of Ending “C,” Togashi kept it as a possibility for his preference. Then came another scenario that was labeled D, one that Togashi dropped but would be used in case he passed away before the series ended. Togashi described D on the program (according to Crunchyroll’s Joseph Luster and Kyle Cardine, and a translation of the letter.)
A girl next to a lake is seen holding a fishing rod. The girl, named Gin, suddenly catches a fish called the Master of the Lake and brings it to her mother. “Now you can never ask me to become a hunter!” says Gin, as she leaves the fish with her.
The mother speaks with the father about how Gin doesn’t want to leave the island and wishes to inherit their store. “That is her wish for now,” says the father. “We must respect that.” The mother, dissatisfied, says, “Well, maybe she will change her mind. After all, she is related to her great grandma Mito and grandma Noko.” Perhaps the woman doesn’t know Mito and Noko aren’t related by blood.
“But Grandpa Gon was a famous Hunter!” says the mother. “Surely you must want to…”Advertisements“Never leave!” yells Gin. Even deep in the forest, Gin hears and responds to her parents’ conversation. “She saw right through that,” says the father.
The scene changes to Mito’s shop. The Master of the Lake has been fully cut and cleaned. “Mom never gets it,” Gin says to herself. “Great grandma always moves out of her seat when grandpa talks about his Hunting days. “Grandma Noko hides her loneliness from those days even when speaking with him.” Gin begins to chop on the cutting board with more force. “That won’t be me!!” says Gin. “Making someone wait for me for so many months and years…”
The door opens. A calm voice speaks. A chubby boy enters carrying plants. “I have some plants! And you caught the Master of the Lake! Let’s give it to everyone on the island!”
“I always want to be with the people I want to be with,” says Gin. The boy agrees, and they begin to cook together.AdvertisementsA bird takes off, flying in the big sky. Below the bird is a street with different people: someone’s son, someone’s daughter, and many people with different connections and backgrounds exchanging smiles. They may or may not know they are the descendants of certain people. The bird then flies away.
The figure of someone looks off from the distance.
The End.
We all hope that Togashi doesn’t pass before the series ends, it has been an ongoing serialized series since 1998. Viz Media publishes the manga for English audiences, and Crunchyroll streams the 2011 anime. For new updates on Hunter x Hunter, you can follow Togashi on his official Twitter account.
