The School Library Journal’s Newest Survey Sees A Growth In Popularity For Graphic Novels and Manga Among Students

If you work in a school district or perhaps are a student, then you have noticed a new trend at your School’s Library involving Graphic Novels and Manga. In a new study from the School Library Journal, the popularity of Graphic Novels and Manga has soared by over 90%, with the biggest percentile being around Elementary Schools. Students clamored about the humor, contemporary fiction, and Manga. Manga comprises 43 percent of high school graphic novel purchases according to this new survey among librarians. Also, the SLJ mentioned that Educators are leveraging the enthusiasm to excite students about books, particularly striving readers and English language learners, despite objection by adults: 59 percent of school librarians reported opposition to graphic novels from teachers, parents, and others who didn’t consider them “real books.” While there are censorship attempts—18 percent of public libraries and 10 percent of schools have experienced challenges to graphic-format works—students’ fervor is only building. It looks like another gaming company (Microsoft previously announced it would also stop offering integration with Twitter) has decided to stop offering support integration with the social media platform, Twitter. (I would mention “X” but we all know that everyone prefers to call it Twitter.) Sony Interactive Entertainment announced on Monday that it will stop offering integration with the platform and users will no longer be able to post nor view content on Twitter via their PS4 and PS5 consoles. They will also no longer be able to link Twitter accounts to their consoles. SIE did not state the reason for ending integration with Twitter. For more on this story, Anime News Network has further details.

As of November 13, 2023, integration with X (formerly known as Twitter) will no longer function on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles. This includes the ability to view any content published on X on PS5/PS4, and the ability to post and view content, trophies, and other gameplay-related activities on X directly from PS5/PS4 (or link an X account to do so).

Studios and SAG-AFTRA reached a new three-year contract with studios, which included guardrails against the use of artificial intelligence, though it allows AI to be used to create “digital replicas” if actors are paid and give their permission. The Board approved the deal on Friday, for more on this deal head over to SAG-AFTRA’s official website.
