Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Showcases A New Villain and A Spring Release

They’re coming back, and they are bringing a new enemy along with them. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire prepares to take the sequel back to its roots in New York.

It picks up after the events of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the Spengler Family and the Ghostbusters stopped Gozer’s return in a rural Oklahoma town. Now, with the original team and the recruits, the team faces a new foe that has turned New York into a Winter Nightmare, thanks to a mysterious new foe, Death Chill that took over the city.

The film will also serve as the first film in the Ghostbusters film franchise that will not include the involvement of the film’s original director, Ivan Reitman, who passed away in 2022. His son Jason directed Afterlife with Ivan, before his passing at 75, credited as a producer and co-screenwriter. The new film is directed by Gil Kenan, who co-wrote it with Jason Reitman, which will open in theaters on March 29, 2024.

The Spengler family “returns to where it all started — the iconic New York City firehouse — to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.”
