Toei Animation is continuing its countdown tradition with Shigeru Mizuki‘s Classic Manga Akuma-Kun. With the anime set to debut on November 9, the animation company is aiming to capitalize on a spooky holiday week.

Recently, Toei Animation released two new countdown trailers. The first one focused on Mephisto III (Toshio Furukawa) and Akuma II / Ichirō Umoregi (Yuki Kaji). The newest one focused on Shingo Umoregi, the current Akuma-Kun, who is voiced by Yūko Mita (Akuma-Kun, GeGeGe no Kitarō, Urusei Yatsura, and One Piece). A new promotional video will be released every day, leading up to the premiere.

Toei Animation and Encourage Films are handling the animation production for the series, with Junichi Sato (the director from the 1989 Akuma-Kun anime adaptation) returning as the Chief Director and Fumitoshi Oizaki as the Director. Meanwhile, Hiroshi Oonagi is doing the series composition, and Daichi Nagatomi is a producer. Netflix is distributing the anime exclusively this year.

Akuma-Kun is adapted from the original manga series written and illustrated by Shigeru Mizuki, the creator of GeGeGe no Kitarō and Shōwa-Shi (Showa: A History of Japan). Akuma-Kun was also adapted into a live-action TV series, an anime series, and two anime films titled Akuma-Kun: The Movie (1989) and Akuma-kun: Yōkoso Akuma Land e!! (1990). It was also adapted into an RPG video game titled Akuma-Kun: Makai no Wana for the Famicom in 1990.
