Final Fantasy XIV Leaps Onto The TTRPG Scene with a New Tabletop Game

The massively popular MMORPG video game, Final Fantasy XIV is preparing to conquer a new world, the Tabletop RPG Genre as Square Enix announces Final Fantasy XIV TTRPG!

According to Gizmodo, Square Enix announced the publication of the Final Fantasy XIV TTRPG. The starter series is available for preorder, it includes a Player Book, a Gamemaster Book, Premade Character sheets, a Rules Summary & Strategy Guide, and 16 custom dice (a mix of D20s and D6s.) the starter set also includes an encounter map, character tokens, and ability markers.

While details are scarce on the system and game style this will utilize, at a close observation it would seem that this new TTRPG will be a classic turn-based, combat-focused fantasy RPG, giving players a chance to explore Eorzea in a new way. It features premade characters that include four primary jobs from the game that fill the standard party formula consisting of a Tank, Healer, and two DPS fighters: a Warrior, White Mage, Dragoon, and Black Mage. Square Enix also opened a new teaser website for the game, which mentions that it requires 3 to 5 players (Five is recommended) with a two-hour playtime. The game is available now to pre-order on Square Enix’s shop, and it will be released in May 2024.

The game’s release coincides with the tenth anniversary of A Realm Reborn, the relaunch of an MMO that had a lackluster start at the beginning, and quickly became one of Square Enix’s best games. It is now the first Final Fantasy game to get a TTRPG adaptation. Final Fantasy XIV is available now for Playstation 4, Playstation 5, PC, MAC, and Steam. It will be coming to XBox in Spring 2024.
