The wait is almost over. Matthew A. Cherry’s newest animated series based on his award-winning book, and Oscar-winning short film, Hair Love is preparing to premiere later this month, but it picked up a brand-new promotional visual by Marcus The Visual Williams.
Marcus Williams (Tuskegee Heirs, Super Natural) shared his new promotional illustration for the upcoming series, sharing his excitement and love for the new project.
The series is set in Chicago, focusing on the lives of African-American millennial parents Stephen Love (Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi) and Angela Young (Issa Rae) as they experience the ups and downs of modern life. Young, who has been in remission for two months following a battle with cancer, struggles to regain her footing as a hairstylist while Love makes attempts to find a career as a musician in a highly competitive industry. Together the duo navigates through the demands of parenthood with their hilarious and adorable daughter, Zuri (Brooke Monroe Conaway). It will also focus on the family as they juggle careers, relationships, parenthood, social issues & multi-generational dynamics as they try to make a better life for themselves.
The television will consist of twelve episodes with four episodes released weekly until October 5th, the season finale premiere date. It will also feature Loretta Devine as Gigi Young, Harry Lennix as Russell Young, Tamar Braxton as Star, Sheryl Lee Ralph as Sheree, Debra Wilson, and more. The series is set to debut on September 21st on MAX.
