The newest review is taking us on an out-of-this-world adventure with a brand-new hero, his name? Punk Taco! But he isn’t alone, joining him in his heroic adventure is his band consisting of Dahlila (The Master Planner, Keyboardist, and Manager of the Band), Bovo (Bassist), and Bash (Drummer). This review focuses on the very first volume, bringing with it fun, aliens, tacos, and tacos!
Punk Taco, is a book series created by the father and son creative team, consisting of Adam Wallenta (DC, Marvel, American Mule Entertainment/Public Enemy), and Makana Wallenta. The first volume introduces Punk Taco and explores his big mission involving his new friend, helping his friend find his family, and saving the galaxy from an Evil Tyrant. It is a Two-Time Ringo Award Winning story, for Best Kids Comic, and Best Graphic Novel in 2018.
The first volume does a great job of setting up the premise, the story carries a positive message about friendship, persistence, and anti-bullying. It does have some political references, but it shouldn’t offend anyone, at least I hope not. For a kid’s story, it has quite a big vocabulary of words and references that could benefit both parents, grandparents, and the younger generation.
The artwork featured in this book was one of the most charming things about it, combining it with both the father and his six-year-old son brought not only a sense of familiarity to the reader but a sense of nostalgia for the older reader when creating artwork. The comic book panels are drawn larger than what you would find in other comics, but that works out for younger eyes, which includes bright and vibrant colors.
Even though this was a shorter review, the first volume of Punk Taco is a fun kid’s comic book series worth checking out for both older and younger readers to enjoy.
