PLEASE NOTE: Rankings reflect sales for July 2023
There is a book that is taking the world by storm, and that’s Eiichiro Oda’s Shonen Series, One Piece. As many of you are aware, our Straw Hat Captain is preparing to take his fight with Kaido to a whole new level. July was filled with events, San Diego Comic-Con, and One Piece Day, which led to the announcement of Gear Five finally being adapted into the anime series. One Piece Vol. 103 made it into the top five of August’s NY Times Best Sellers List for Graphic Novels and Manga, the Wano arc is almost near the end, plus the hype for the Hollywood Live-Action Series premiering on August 31st has taken the book to No. 4.
Meanwhile, another popular book that has been generating buzz was ND Stevenson’s Nimona. Ever since its animated film debut on Netflix, it has received a lot of praise for queer representation and the film serving as a powerful trans allegory that audiences have been desperately searching for, in a time where they have faced condemnation and bigoted laws being introduced to censor and shun them for embracing their true selves. Nimona sticks the landing at No. 8. The Fan-Favorite Web Comic Series, and Eisner-Award Winning series, Lore Olympus stays in the Top Ten, the fourth volume falling briefly from No. 2 to No. 9.
Finally, let’s look at the other manga titles that have also been included. Naoya Matsumono’s Kaiju No. 8 Vol. 7 took No. 11, the first volumes of Koyoharu Gotouge’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba took No. 12, and Tatsuya Endo’s Spy X Family took No. 15. No, you aren’t reading this last part wrong, but Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Goodbye, Eri, took No. 13, five steps down from its spot at No. 8 in July’s Best Sellers List.
As Sanji and Zolo defeat the two remaining Lead Performers of the Animal Kingdom pirates, the battle intensifies between Luffy and Kaido! Meanwhile, Kid and Law are locked in a furious melee with Big Mom. Can the upstarts defeat two reigning Emperors of the Sea?!
