After The World’s Greatest Superhero Film became DC’s sixth massive flop at the Box Office, Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle stepped up to the plate for DC Comics and Warner Bros.

The final trailer has arrived, and it shows Xolo’s character, Jaime Reyes, coming to terms with the scarab and learning to control the suit of armor. We also get a first look at Raoul Max Trujillo as Conrad Carapax/Indestructible Man and Susan Sarandon as Victoria Kord.

The new film is helmed by Charm Kings Director Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer penned the script. Maridueña’s Blue Beetle Character is one of the notable characters that has joined James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe. While Flash is already confirmed to be a big player in Safran and Gunn’s DC Universe (In this writer’s opinion, after the recent Box Office Flop it should be considered to rethink that confirmation and recast the hero with a new actor.) both are plotting a new slate after taking over as the DC Studio Co-Bosses in November, with their first film set to be Superman: Legacy (due out in July 2025). Though Blue Beetle was made as part of the previous regime’s plans, Gunn has said that this version of the character will continue. The film was originally set to be an HBO Max exclusive film until it was upgraded to be a theater exclusive, avoiding a similar fate that befell Leslie Grace’s unreleased Batgirl film, which Warner Bros Discovery scrapped the film due to the Studio’s cost-cutting measures.

The film is an adaptation of the Comic Book series from DC Comics, Jaime Reyes made his first appearance in Infinite Comics #3 and was created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hammer. He is the third hero to take up the mantle of the Blue Beetle but was vastly different from his predecessors. Blue Beetle is set to premiere in theaters on August 18th.
