KochiKame Celebrates Its 55th Anniversary With A Brand-New One-Shot

Shueisha announced on Wednesday, that Osamu Akimoto will be making his return to Weekly Shonen Jump for a special One-Shot involving his award-winning Action Comedy Manga, KochiKame: Tokyo Beat Cops.

According to the announcement, it will be a 46-page One-Shot titled Kibō no Entotsu (Natsu) -1963- Kankichi-tachi no Natsuyasumi (Chimney of Hope, Summer) -1963- The Summer Vacation of Kankichi and Company). The One-Shot will make its appearance in this year’s 32nd issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump on July 10th and will include a color opening page.

This one-shot is the first chapter of the manga in 11 months (Akimoto previously drew a chapter in August 2022.) the one-shot is the third part of the Chimney of Hope storyline and focuses on a character named Rin Akatsuki (no relation to the real-life musician), a singer and worker in Sanju Power Station, a notable power station that existed in Tokyo in 1926 through 1963. The Station’s Chimneys were often used in various forms of media to signal the time to the audience. Meanwhile, the new “Kibō no Entotsu (Natsu) -1963- Kankichi-tacho no Natsuyasumi” story is set in 1963, and centers on Kankichi and others traveling to Hashima to meet Rin.
