Neal Kirby, The Son of Jack Kirby Issues A Statement Regarding The New Stan Lee Documentary

Recently, Marvel Entertainment and The Walt Disney Company released a new documentary focusing on the late comic creator, Stan Lee. While Lee was a monumental figure in the comic book industry and popular culture, Media Companies and other companies have often overlooked the people who helped bring the comic book characters to life, the co-creators. It is a common problem in the Comic Book Industry. Writers and artists have been overshadowed by big-name creators.

Neal Kirby, son of the legendary comic book artist/creator Jack Kirby, has had enough of writers and artists being overlooked while big-name creators take all of the credit. Neal Kirby released a statement over on Twitter, thanks to his daughter, Jillian Kirby.

In the statement, Neal implied that Stan Lee could be egotistical at times. He even went as far as to say that Lee wasn’t the most informed person when it came to major elements of comic books.

It should be noted and generally that Stan Lee had limited knowledge of history, mythology, and science. On the other hand, my father’s knowledge of these subjects, to which I and many others can attest, was extensive. Einstein summed it up better. ‘More the knowledge, lesser the ego. Lesser the knowledge, more the ego.’

It was Jack’s son who set the record straight, also claiming that this documentary was the final straw. He wasn’t just defending his father, but everyone who has been overlooked in the Comic Book Industry. He wants all creators to be appreciated, believing that one person shouldn’t take all of the credit, especially when it comes to working in the comic industry where collaboration is key. His statement ended with a passionate conclusion saying “It’s way past time to at least get this one chapter of literary/art history right. ‘Nuff said.”
