Viz Originals Return as Former Shonen Jump Editor Hisashi Sasaki Joins Other Editors In Portfolio Reviews

Viz Media announced the return of Viz Originals at this year’s Anime Expo, located at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and it’s bringing Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump’s Former Editor-In-Chief, Hisashi Sasaki as a special guest in Anime Expo’s Portfolio Reviews.

According to the announcement, Hisashi Sasaki will be joining other editors on-hand to review portfolios and offer advice to aspiring manga creators. This will give creators a chance to speak to experienced editors, who have worked with countless creators to help develop new and original manga stories. The Convention will take place on July 1st-July 4th

Viz Media also mentioned that this will be an in-person portfolio review. But will require registration (the registration is available online) before participating in the event. Creators must follow the guidelines listed below:

• Writers:
  • Samples of sequential works that best highlight your writing and story ideas
  • List your creative writing work – prose and fan work is okay
  • VIZ Originals can only consider writing samples in English at this time

• Artists:
  • Samples of sequential works that best highlight your art style and storytelling
  • Best works that showcase composition, character expressions, and scene details
  • Include finished pieces, not only sketch or concept work
  • Include original character art pieces – some fan work is okay
